TeachMe: 1st Grade App Reviews

Great game

Ive downloaded dozens of learning games for my kids and the Teach Me group outshines all of them. My kids started playing them before they could even speak, and now at 4 and 5 years old they are miles ahead of any of their classmates. They can both read, spell and do math that other kids years ahead of them cant do. The careful, and gradual steps it takes to teach difficult concepts are genius and they have tons of fun doing it. Even the coin reward system helps to teach them the value of saving money. Fantastic learning tool. If I had one criticism though, I would suggest altering the way the programs let the kids know theyve given a wrong answer. The negative sound effect and red X have become something they both dread, to the point that it turns them off the game if they get one. My eldest refuses to even be in the room when my youngest plays for fear hell hear the sound. I think a better way would be a voice that just says "try again" or an option to turn the sound off, or provide your own sounds, or something along those lines.

Fantastic!

I love this app! We have many apps for our kids .. And have "folders" of educational ones and this is by far the best. My girls are 4 1/2 and 7 and I found this level works well for both (albeit a tad challenging for the younger one). My younger one can already sound out simple words - if ur child is not quite at that stage, I would suggest the Kinder level instead. The girls are very motivated by the coin system and they are captivated by the game for ages!

Great game but one major problem...

This is a great game but the way it shows a wrong answer with the red "X" and negative sound effect needs to be changed. Its too aggressive for small children and makes them feel bad. Getting a wrong answer isnt as bad as not trying and the negative result makes them afraid and anxious to even try. A simple "uh oh, try again" (with a sad emoticon) or something friendly like that would be much more effective and less destructive method of getting the message across, and would reinforce the need to keep trying. Better yet, providing the ability to modify the sound to one of a preset bunch or even providing a custom sound that the child responds well too would be ideal. Please do so, my kids have learned a lot from this set of games but are getting very close to giving up on them because of this problem.

Great app with reading, writing, and math practice.

I really like this app for my son in Grade 1. It is a complete package with practice in reading, spelling and math. They give you the option of using either a keyboard (abc order not QWERTY) or your finger to write the answer. This is great, although your child has to have fairly good printing in order for them not to get frustrated. The rewards are also fun and the fish tank is always a hit.

Great little app

This app has lots of great stuff for your kids. Great learning across early math and English topics. One suggestion would be to optionally disable some of the audio prompts as they can get annoying and time consuming for the child. The sound you get a coin would be an example of this.

Self-paced education

This app is reason enough to make the purchase of an iPad, iPhone, or iPod Touch.

Some fundamental problems.

Great, but kids can cheat by leaving the school and going back in after doing a hint (which they do, tired of hassling them about it). Should be a way to get partial credit for a hint. Also, the mouse is annoying after awhile. Should be a way to shut that off after she says her things a few dozen times.

Great app

My 1st graders love this app! They love the reward system. I like that I can check each students progress. I defiantly recommend this app.

Excellent......want more more more

This app is by far the best. Excellent system for homeschool children. Fun, engaging, entertaining but most important it really does teach. My aspergers, ADHD son is finally learning and retaining information. Cant thank u enough. Please please add more to keep it going.

Quite a nice app for price

Both my sons like this app. My younger son while very bright has poor handwriting so there is a feature where you can enable a keyboard so he can select the correct number or letter. I totally relate to feedback that handwriting can be frustrating. My 7 yo has trouble on second grade app with his handwriting being recognized but again for them to both be practicing math, reading, etc on an inexpensive app - especially one that does NOT require additional in app purchase makes this an awesome app. SO many of these educational games require An in app purchase that when your kid reaches a certain level you have to pay another $5-10.

Best school app I have bought

My daughter loves this app, we have bought about 2 dozen different apps for reading, math first grade sight words and this is the only one that she goes back to time and time again.

Ks Gram

K started with kindergarten and moved up to 2nd grade. She is 6yrs old and well above avg in 1 st grade. She begs to play the games, even quickly finishing chores to use. It not only teaches the three Rs but how to save coins earned and plan ahead to spend. Also using imagination to design her scene scapes. Thank you for this family of apps. It keeps kids guiet in car and while running errands. We all love it for its simplicity of use and worth as an education tool. Keep up the good work 24x7 digital you are doing a good thing. Thanks again.

A household favorite.

I am very impressed with the quality of this app. Yes, the handwriting recognition is not perfect, but it is far superior to requiring me daughter to type in her answers. Overall, it is actually pretty forgiving of little hands imperfect letters. Some things we like: This app lets you control how many times a student must answer each question before it is marked as "learned." The rewards system is simple, but effective. There are no timers. A real voice asks the questions. As opposed to those horrible computer voices that are very difficult for young childs to understand. My daughter wakes me up in the morning asking to play it. This is the ONLY educational app where this has been the case.

Wow!

I have never wrote a review for an app, but this app is awesome!!! I am a first grade teacher and I plan on using this app as a resource in my classroom, as well as for my own personal children:) Love it!

Great app

I have all of them

Hands down the best!

Ive been buying apps for my kids like crazy. I look for apps that are educational but fun. The kids lose interest in most apps in a day or two but this app is so varied that my 6 year old rushes through her homework to learn more math and reading with this app. It really works too! Its not just a game with a light learning its full on education.

LOVE

My students LOVE this app. They get to play it after earning so many stickers or smilies in class. I have a student with multiple behavior problems and since I have purchased this, he has gone 3 weeks without an incident so he can play it twice a day. Great learning tool and perfect. It has more math work than anything else but that is OK.

Awesome App- look fwd to 3rd Grade and Beyond!

We live overseas and our kids are in local Chinese school. These apps are perfect for helping them keep up with English school stuff too. Thanks for being a blessing and looking forward to Teach Me 3rd Grade, 4th Grade, 5th Grade, etc. Maybe eventually you will Have Teach Me Medical School?? Jason Logan MD

Well done

My 5 year old literally played this approximately 30 minutes to an hour a day over break here for a week. The reward structure seems to keep him motivated really well.

By far the best educational app out there right now!

I have tried out so many apps for my 7 year old. This one provides just the right amount of challenge, keeps her engaged, and the reward system motivates her to do well and keep going! I am going to recommend this app to all my friends!
