TeachMe: 1st Grade is the third installment in the popular TeachMe series of educational apps. TeachMe: 1st Grade teaches four age-appropriate subjects to first grade children: sight words, addition, subtraction and spelling. Learning subjects align with common core standards to help your child get prepared for 1st Grade. Parents can review performance history for each subject to check how their child is doing.

TeachMe: 1st Grade keeps children engaged with a unique reward system where children earn coins by playing learning games at the school. They can move around the rest of TeachTown to spend their coins on fun rewards. Children can collect stretchable shapes at the Shape Store, visit their virtual aquarium at the Fish Store, and decorate different scenes at the art store. The simple and intuitive user interface is designed to be child friendly, which allows children to play without help from an adult. An animated teacher (Mimi Mouse) gives verbal instructions and feedback to encourage the child to learn and succeed! In addition, the learning screens are colorful, fun and rotate between four different subjects so children dont get bored.

Children write their answers for math and spelling questions and TeachMe: 1st Grade reads them. If your child needs help, TeachMe: 1st grade will show them how to write the correct answer including the proper stroke order. TeachMe also includes a virtual keyboard input option.

Each child has an achievements screen which motivates and encourages learning by showing progress and levels for each topic. Parents can use this screen to quickly see progress of their child. Parents can select which subjects they want, set different difficulty levels, and even choose specific questions. Parents can also review performance history for each subject to check how their child is doing.

Pros and cons of TeachMe: 1st Grade app for iPhone and iPad

TeachMe: 1st Grade app good for

I purchased this for my seven-year-old to use on my iPod Touch from time to time. I wanted something to give a little boost to her math and reading comprehension. Initially, there was some frustration - the character recognition isnt very good, but I realized that my daughter was not writing her letters in the standard way. It actually helped her improve her letter-creating, both upper and lower case. The math is also good, and has improved her grasp at subtraction. Motiviation comes from winning coins that you can then use to fill an aquarium with fish is great incentive for small children The things I didnt like so much: 1) I see a lot of repetition - the player is asked to spell the same words over and over. Maybe not a bad thing, but a bit more diversity would be good. I am not sure if things get more difficult as they progress to higher levels. 2) I wish there was a grade-2 version of the game
Again I love this program... The visuals are amazing for children including those with special needs. Being a parent of a special needs child its very hard to find programs. This one is also on the top of my Favourites.... Any chance you will make another math app counting up to 100 with adding and subtracting using visuals???? Also love how you did the Dolch words, and spelling.... Amazing program in my books!!! Well Done!!!
5 Star App! I even use it with my kindergarten class. They love it & parents have asked for the name of the App we play in class.
This application is great . my daughter spends several hours to learn math and writing. I have bought three version of this app{Toddler, kindergarten, and 1st Grade}The last one is the best because kids can spend points to purchase their favourite items. Please add DIVISION and MULTIPLY to math section.
I am SO impressed with this educational app, and the amount of details and work they clearly put into it. My daughter loves it and is actually upstairs right now continuing to play it so she can win more points. There are four sections in this app: Math - addition and subtraction; Dolce words - both sight words and getting the child to spell. When she does it correctly, she wins a point. After three points, she wins a coin and she can spend her coins in the Shape Store, the Fish Store or the Art Store where she can buy stickers, fish or shapes - and the fish actually swim around, you can buy food for them and feed them, etc. I was so impressed with this app that I bought the JK one for my son. The kids love it so much that they fight over who gets to play with it next - little do they know how much theyre learning while they use it. My daughter, who usually hates homework, has been now playing it for over an hour. Shes seven. Thank you and I hope you do more apps for older grades too!!
Bought this app for my 6 year oldstand he loves it! First thing in the morning he wants to play it and first thing after school he is begging for the phone. A great learning tool and very addicting! This is one great app!! Way to go! Hope you can make a grade 2 version soon! Highly recommended.

Some bad moments

Great, but kids can cheat by leaving the school and going back in after doing a hint (which they do, tired of hassling them about it). Should be a way to get partial credit for a hint. Also, the mouse is annoying after awhile. Should be a way to shut that off after she says her things a few dozen times.
Loved kindergarten version. However, this one requires your child to handwritten the answer onto the iPad. The handwriting recognition software is poor and will often just not read the answer. If it cant read the answer, the mouse narrator goes into a long lecture about writing clearly that cannot be interrupted and sometimes repeated itself multiple times. Very annoying! I cannot set this to use a keyboard or to shut-up the annoying narrator.
I needed a quick way to keep my child occupied, and downloaded this. The very first direction was to spell the word dog using your pointer finger on the screen. She started to write D and it recorded it as an i she returned to trying and finally I tried it and it took a few tries before it finally accepted it as a D ... Now, my child is in the first grade. I would appreciate she masters spelling before problem solving for a stupid app.
Terrible. The technology doesnt work and is discouraging since it skips around and mid-reads the childs attempts. Counter-productive if you are trying to encourage learning. Deleting it now.
I teach 1st grade and wanted to use the game at center time. The app does not allow you to choose a subject. Reading, math, and spelling are all combined into one lesson.
